Illustrations

Beginning in the early 1930’s, Crockwell’s prolific and successful career as an illustrator spanned almost 40 years. In addition to providing cover and story illustrations for magazines like The Saturday Evening Post, Crockwell also produced advertisements for companies such as Coca-Cola, General Electric and General Mills. Crockwell estimated that he had drawn four hundred full-page images, of which more than three billion prints had been made (New York Times, December 2, 1968).

Crockwell’s illustrations brought the people of Glens Falls, faces of every age and type and emotion, to Americans across the country.

The town of Glens Falls, Hometown USA, became the perfect backdrop on which to illustrate the idealized American Dream.
